page title icon Little Hinges Swing Big Doors of Breakthrough Results: The Truth about Living Life on Your Terms AND Enjoying Inner Peace, Together

“Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.”

~ Michelangelo

That’s you, by the way.

Inside you, right now, lives a powerful person —an agent of change the world needs that only you can fulfill.

However, you’re also the sculptor. You’re both: That original statue and the designer, the sculptor, and the only one who knows what it is, where it’s hiding, and what must be chipped away because it’s not a part of the meaningful impact you are supposed to make.

And, not only that, you’re the only one qualified to do work required to unveil your masterpiece.

Here’s a little hinge to help you confidently walk your path daily.

[No Results]
plus [A Good Story]
does NOT equal [Wanted Results]

No eff’ing shit, right?

And yet, how many times does our behaviors demonstrate to the world that we believe that somehow a good story (or reason why) justifies the lack of results?

We do it all the time, do we not?

Every time we’re late (or we haven’t kept in touch with someone, or make a promise that doesn’t happen, or, or, or whatever), how many times do we then tell a story as a way to make up for being late? It’s like the story somehow voids the situation because it’s supposed to show it was beyond our control, and therefore not our fault because it’s outta our hands.

We use the story (no matter how legit it is or isn’t) as if it was the wanted outcome.

Well…

…What if you recognized the difference between the justification and what actually is the current situation?

…What if you didn’t waste another minute of your already limited time telling a story to explain the past?

…What if simply noticed how many times you feel the urge to explain, defend, or justify a situation?

Here’s a little trick I developed to use a cue to make myself consciously aware that I’m about to tell a story to justify something.

All you have to do is look out for the key word “because.”

Be on the look out for your becauses and you’ll see what usually follows them is a narrative that you want to use as a justification to explain why something is the way it is.

“I’m late because… blah, blah, blah.”

“I didn’t complete the assignment because… blah, blah, blah.”

“I missed the deadline because… blah, blah, blah.”

“My Facebook ads account got shut down because… blah, blah, blah.”

“I’m confused because… blah, blah, blah.”

“I’m not rich because… blah, blah, blah.”

“I can’t ever get unstuck because… blah, blah, blah.”

“I can’t focus… because… blah, blah, blah.”

I bet you’ll start seeing these stories of justification everywhere.

And, here’s the thing, even though they may be absolutely true, when you invest in a story to explain why, your focus stays stuck in the problem, situation or behavior that isn’t serving you, is it?

In fact, every justification is helping the unwanted to gather gravity.

Why not invest your energy in gathering gravity towards a possible solution instead?
